The Golf & Country Südtirol has, after long-year search for properties, opened an 18-hole golfcourse in the Bolzano on terrains of the community of Eppan in Northern Italy. After already possessing the Golfclub Freundenstein in Eppan – a training-center with driving-range, short game area and a short course, the creation of an 18-hole course was the logic consequence. In 2013 Himmel Golf Design was appointed with the design and supervision job. Due to difficulties in all final property negotiations only 9 holes with the lodge and the clubhouse were built as a first stage. Located within the vast fruit-tree plantation in the Etsch Valley north of Bolzano an atypical course with plenty of water was created. Because the course lies within a flood area, it had to be risen by in average one meter. The material was gained out of several large new lakes, that gave the course its name „Blue Monster“. The original swamp character of the Etsch valley was lost through the monoculture of the fruit-tree plantation. The new course in Eppan has created new habitats for the lost original aquatic flora and fauna. Because of its numerous teeing-grounds the course is very flexible and playable for golfers of every class. During construction the client acquired the oldest golfclub in the Alto Adige – the Golfclub Carezza (Mountain Beast) – to enlarge its portfolio.
