Optical upgrade
The 27-hole facility of the Golfclub Heidelberg-Lobenfeld e.V. has thoroughly renovated and redesigned its 18-hole golf course in two construction phases. Himmel Golf Design was commissioned with this task. In addition to the necessary general renovation, numerous design and visual weaknesses were remedied. The previously relatively featureless greens were transformed into visually more attractive green complexes.
After the renovation, a new 6-hole short course was built in 2013 – also designed by Himmel Golf Design.

Strategic Enhancement
In addition to the basic renovation and visual enhancements, considerable play-related strategic upgrades were carried out. Furthermore, some fairways were modified, lengthened while greens and tees were partially relocated. Additionally, new fairway bunkers were created on the completely bunker-free fairways and structured according to current and possible future shot distances.
Fairness
In addition to upgrading the playing strategy, the aspect of fairness was also strongly considered. Fair spacious landing zones and approach areas for the greens for normal golfers were integrated into the golf course.
Sustainable Planning
The original course, continuously mowed and with its visually monotonous green, is now visually more structured and ecologically enhanced by the creation of comprehensive extensive zones. Numerous no-play-areas were used for this purpose. Roughs were also added to numerous bunker surrounds in order to have a lasting positive effect on maintenance efforts there too.
