What started out as a childhood passion for golf soon became a profession: Training as a Golf Course Designer took place at the British Institute of Golf Course Architects after studies in Civil Engineering at the TU in Munich. Together with "GDI Golf Design International, responsible for the creation of more than 60 courses, numerous projects were realized. 1992 then saw the founding of Himmel Golf Design.

With a handicap of +2, Thomas C. Himmel was one of Germany’s best golfers for many years, including three victories at the German Amateur Championships in 1991, 1992 and 1993 along with numerous titles at national level that mark a successful career that continued throughout all age groups for mid-amateurs and seniors. Thomas Himmel participated in numerous European and World Championships - and has a deep knowledge of top courses all over the world.
