The Habsberger Golfanlagen GmbH & Co. KG has commissioned Himmel Golf Design in 2022 with the planning of the extension of the storage lake along the green and fairway 9. The aim was to increase the storage volume by at least 100% - which was achieved with a 150 % increase in volume. The construction work was completed in 2023.
In order to avoid a ‘sterile’ and technical look along the fairway and the green, the shallow water zones of gravel with boulders inserted at different water levels. This gives the pond natural elements and a natural look.
The formation of near-natural and irregularly shaped pond banks and edges not only create a near-natural appearance typical of the Franconian Jura, but also make a certain contribution to biodiversity - even if it is a ‘technical’ pond.
The existing and unnatural-looking pond around the "island-tees" of hole 13, was converted into an extensive zone of raw soil, natural stones and gravel areas that blend harmoniously into the overall and wonderful landscape of the golf course. The familiar ‘island effect’ of the tees was completely retained. At the same time, the two already dilapidated crossings of the cart path over the old pond were removed and potential safety problems resolved.
