Top design for a Ryder Cup
Himmel Golf Design won the domestic German competition for the application space for the Ryder Cup 2018. This was awarded to Paris in the final round of the five applicant countries. The design, on a total area of approx. 160 hectares, would not only have met all the space criteria required for a Ryder Cup, but would also have offered every golfer strategy, fun, fairness, relaxation and nature - at the very highest level. Together with a hotel in Gut Rohrenfeld and the existing 18-hole course of the Wittelsbacher Golf Club, a first-class resort was planned.
Lots of water, floodplain landscape and spaciousness
Directly adjacent to the alluvial forests of the Danube, water should become the defining element of the square. Old, already silted oxbow lakes were to be revived and the many new bodies of water formed in a similar shape. The open landscape, divided by a few avenues, should be preserved as far as possible and provided with attractive wildflower areas. Another highlight would be Grünau Castle at the end of hole 13.
Design
A spacious area that offers plenty of space for numerous areas of water, the required length of over 7,100 meters and visually attractive fairways.
High functionality
All the required Ryder Cup facilities could be accommodated on and around the area.
