Top Redesign in Switzerland

A high-end-redesign für den Züricher Traditionsclub in Zumikon. Der bereits 1929 gebaute Golfplatz wurde, nach einer Überarbeitung in den 80er Jahren, zwischen 2015 und 2017 erneut durch Himmel Golf Design between 2015 and 2017. From the beginning, the exclusive golf club planned an 18-hole course designed as a high-class championship course. Nevertheless, the goal was to make it fun for the average golfer as well as challenging for the professional. Already in 2020, the Swiss International Amateur Championships and the European Mens Amateur Championships were hosted - both a huge success.

Preserving the Parkland Character

Preserving the existing parkland character was an important planning criterion for the golf club from the very beginning. By removing shade-causing conifers from the green and tee surrounds, it was not only possible to ensure the quality of the new greens and tees in the long term, but also to free up strikingly beautiful deciduous trees and turn them into beautiful solitaires.

Top Construction Quality

By use of the best materials for the construction, the course, in addition to the new design, is well equipped for absolute top maintenance. The fairways were provided with a ten centimetre thick sand layer and laid out with bentgrass. An average fairway cutting height of eight millimetres is standard. The bunkers were also built with Capillary Concrete, in addition to the redesign and a strategic and fairer restructuring. A new sprinkler system was also part of the project.

Increased Biodiversity

In addition to all the golf and construction upgrades, the course was optimised in terms of biodiversity in keeping with the times. Numerous no-play-areas, which used to be extensively mowed, have been set aside for the creation and development of near-natural and site-appropriate meadows. The formerly “monotonous green” is now giving way to colourful and diverse grasslands in many places, which have made the complete landscape more dynamic and attractive.
